Tropical Wave Moving Slowly Towards Antilles

A slow-developing tropical wave, designated Invest 92L, was approaching the Lesser Antilles Saturday afternoon, perhaps bringing some rain but with little likelihood of organizing into a stronger storm as it passes through the Caribbean.

According to the National Hurricane Center, 92L was about 450 miles east of the Lesser Antilles as of 2 p.m. Saturday, producing a large area of disorganized showers and
thunderstorms.

Environmental conditions are only marginally conducive, the NHC update said, predicting that any development should be slow to occur while it moves westward at 15 to 20 mph.

The disturbance is expected to bring locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds to portions
of the Lesser Antilles beginning later Saturday through Sunday night.

The NHC gave the system a 20 percent chance of formation through the next 48 hours, and only a 30 percent chance through the next five day.
