V.I. Students Invited to Enter Essay Contest on Hispanic Heritage

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month 2016, Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, the Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Division of Virgin Islands Cultural Education has announced the launch of an essay contest opened to students in grades 6-12 who are attending the territory’s public, private and parochial schools. The contest began on Sept. 15; it will end on Oct. 3.
Students are asked to submit an essay of 500 words or less on the following topic: “What are three (3) significant elements that Puerto Rican culture has contributed to the Virgin Islands? What impact have they had on Virgin Islands culture?”
First, second and third place winners will each receive a tablet and a trophy. The grand prize winner will receive a laptop, tablet and a trophy.
Entries should be e-mailed to valrica.bryson@vide.vi and nikima.richards@vide.vi by midnight on Oct. 3.
