Organizations Join to Sponsor Back to School Day of Prayer

V.I. Mothers Against Guns Inc. in conjunction with Sounds of Jubilee Ministries and the St. Thomas-St. John Fellowship of Pastors will sponsor the Back to School Day of Prayer and Blessing Outreach from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 3, at Emancipation Garden. Prayers will be offered up for students, teachers, faculty, support staff, educational personnel and families in the territory. This event is open to the public.

Gov. Kenneth Mapp has proclaimed Saturday, Sept. 2, and Sunday, Sept. 3, as the Back to School Days of Prayer. Pastors and religious leaders are encouraged to pray and intercede on behalf of the Virgin Islands’ students, parents and educational personnel in the territory.

The organizers are also urging parents, particularly fathers, to take their children to school on the first day of school and continue to contribute significantly to their children’s education throughout the school year.

Unlike many news organizations, we haven't put up a paywall - we want to keep our journalism as open as we can. Our sites are more popular than ever, but advertising revenues are falling - so you can see why we could use your help. Our independent journalism costs time, money and hard work to keep you informed, but we do it because we believe that it matters. If everybody who appreciates our reporting efforts were to help fund it for as little as $1, our future would be much more secure. Thanks in advance for your support!
