The Department of Human Services unveiled new buses for seniors and vans for the Meals on Wheels program this week.
Gov. Kenneth Mapp hailed the arrival of the buses and vans and expressed gratitude to the staff and management of the Department of Human Services and Property and Procurement, at a dedication ceremony Thursday at Victorious Believers church on St. Croix.
“I’m proud to be here to share in the moment when we push to make things easier for our seniors. I don’t want my legacy to that I was able to buy vans and buses for seniors because I think there is so much more to do in our community for our seniors,” Mapp said in a statement.
“I don’t want my legacy to that I was able to buy vans and buses for seniors because I think there is so much more to do in our community for our seniors… when we can tell you that you have a brand new certified Herbert Grigg Home for the Aged and we’ve acquired Sea View and you have a brand new Sea View facility,” he said.
“With the vast responsibilities of this department, we must remain focused on those whom we serve so as to ensure that their needs are adequately met. The services to our seniors are paramount amongst all our accomplishments,” Human Services Commissioner Felecia Blyden said.
