U.S. Virgin Islands 2018 Elections Calendar *Updated*

May 1: First day on which nomination petitions/papers may be filed, after noon.

May 8: Last day on which nomination petitions/papers may be filed, deadline 6 p.m.

May 13: Deadline for withdrawal of nominated candidates; deadline for candidates for the same office with similar last surnames to request in writing that the occupation or residence be printed opposite his/her name on the ballot.

May 18: Noon deadline for filing substitute nomination certificates and papers.

May 25: 5:30 p.m. casting of lots for position of names upon the official primary ballot.

June 5: FIRST DAY for receipt by the Supervisor of Elections of applications for ABSENTEE BALLOTS FOR THE PRIMARY ELECTION

June 5: DEADLINE for receipt in writing by the Supervisor of Elections of their shortened form on which candidates whose name contains more than 22 letters should be listed in the ballot. Notice of Defects.

June 5: CERTIFICATION OF NOMINEES by the Supervisor of Elections

June 20: All federal ballots to be mailed out to military and overseas personnel. Deadline for MAIL OUT ABSENTEE BALLOT REQUESTS

July 5:  LAST DAY FOR REGISTRATION

July 5: FIRST DAY FOR EXAMINATION OF VOTING MACHINES and instruction in use of electronic voting machines

July 5: Last Day to investigate all questions relating to registration of electors.

July 5: Last Day for CHANGES OF ENROLLMENT of political parties and CANCELLATION OF PARTY ENROLLMENT

July 5: DEADLINE for receipt of REMOVAL NOTICES and TRANSFER OF REGISTRATION

July 12: LAST DAY FOR EXAMINATION OF VOTING MACHINES and instruction in use of electronic voting machines

July 12: Testing of electronic voting machines and tabulating equipment; Certification by the Board of Elections. (This is open to the general public and media).

July 14: (Tuesday) FIRST DAY OF EARLY VOTING (CHANGED TO JULY 18)

July 14: NOTICE OF PRIMARY ELECTION

July 15: (Sunday) Deadline for qualified electors to petition the Board of Elections to cancel the registration of any registered elector for cause shown.

July 15: Deadline for persons whose applications to be registered has been denied to petition the Board of Elections for review of the matter.

July 17: (Tuesday) LAST DAY for receipt by the supervisor of elections of applications for ABSENTEE BALLOTS FOR THE PRIMARY ELECTION

July 18: FIRST DAY OF EARLY VOTING (CHANGED FROM JULY 14)

(Wednesday) Deadline for appeals to the Superior Court by persons whose claim for registration was denied or whose previous registration was canceled and who has exhausted all administrative remedies.

July 25: (Wednesday) LAST DAY OF EARLY VOTING

Aug. 4: (Saturday) PRIMARY ELECTION DAY

Aug. 9: (Thursday) Registrars in the Election System of the Virgin Islands commence registration.

Aug. 28: (Tuesday) 5:30 p.m. casting of lots for position of names upon the official election ballot.

Aug. 31: (Friday) In case of a tie vote at the primary election, the candidate receiving the tie vote shall cast lots before the Supervisor of Elections at noon.

Sept. 11: (Tuesday) First day for receipt by the supervisor of elections of applications for absentee ballots for the primary election.

Sept. 20: (Thursday) All federal ballots to be mailed out to military and overseas personnel.

Oct. 7: (Sunday) Last day for registration. First day for examination of voting machines and instructions in use of electronic voting machines. Last day to investigate all questions relating to registration of electors. Deadline for receipt of removal notices and transfer of registration. Last day for change of enrollment of political party and cancellation of party enrollment.

Oct. 9: (Tuesday) Official public notice of general election due.

Oct. 15: FIRST DAY OF EARLY VOTING FOR THE GENERAL ELECTION

Oct. 16: (Tuesday) Deadline for receipt by the supervisor of elections of applications for absentee ballots for the general election.

Oct. 17: (Wednesday) Deadline for persons whose application to be registered has been denied to petition the Board of Elections for review of the matter. Appointment of election officers. Deadline for qualified electors to petition the Board of Elections to cancel the registration of any registered elector for cause shown. Last day for examination of voting machines and instruction in use of electronic voting machines.

Oct. 18: (Thursday) Deadline for appeals to the district court by persons whose claim for registration were denied or whose previous registration was canceled and who has exhausted all administrative remedies. Testing of electronic voting machines and tabulation equipment; Certification by the Board of Elections (Open to the public and media).

Oct. 29: LAST DAY OF EARLY VOTING

Nov. 6: (Tuesday) GENERAL ELECTION DAY

Nov. 20: (Tuesday) Run off elections, if no candidate wins an outright majority of the votes.

Nov. 25: (Sunday) Registrars in the election system of the Virgin Islands commence registration.
