Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital’s operating rooms are open again after being partially closed for a week due to air conditioning problems.
Thursday, July 12, the hospital closed its operating rooms for elective surgery because of rising humidity levels. Hospital officials said services would still be provided where the patient’s life might be at risk without immediate surgery.
At the time, one of the hospital’s two 300-ton chillers serving the operating room was inoperable due to what JFL called essential repairs. Officials said JFL began repairing the auxiliary cooling unit and estimated the work would be completed by Friday. It was a few more days than that, the hospital’s news release pointed out.
Wednesday, JFL Chief Executive Officer Wanda Ruben issued a news release saying the cooling systems for the operating rooms are now back online, with services for emergency and urgent cases resuming. Both the auxiliary and main air supply systems have been repaired and humidity levels have returned to normal temperatures.
Ruben apologized to patients and staff for the inconveniences caused by the temporary closure.
“In addition, we want to reassure our community that we are committed to providing superior services, within a safe and compliant environment,” Ruben said in the news release.
