Adriel Sanes Breaks V.I. Swimming Records

U.S. Virgin Islands swimmer Adriel Sanes, 19, broke numerous ISV swimming records on Saturday in the second day of competition at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games, being staged in Barranquilla, Colombia.

Sanes beat the best times for the territory’s swimmers in the men’s 100 meter breaststroke and the men’s 200 meter individual medley, twice in each event, while also qualifying to compete in each events’ Final B round.

During the 100-meter breaststroke event, Sanes set the ISV mark (ISV is the international designation for the territory’s swimming team, standing for Islas Virgenes, the Spanish name for hte islands) with a time of 1:04.37 in his first heat and then broke that in the finals round in 1:03.71.

Similarly, he broke the 200-meter IM record for the ISV in his first heat with 2:10.29, and then again in the finals round in 2:09.53.

He also broke the ISV 50-meter breaststroke record during his 50-meter split of the 100-meter breaststroke Finals B round with a time of 29.27 seconds.

Sanes placed second in both Final B event appearances.
