Casino Control Commission Chair Violet Ann Golden and several members of her family were injured when a younger family member apparently suffering from a mental health crisis attacked them with a knife.

Golden is with family in Texas while on medical leave and recovering from surgery.

During a budget hearing Tuesday, Sen. Novelle Francis (D-STX) asked Casino Control Commission Executive Director Barbara James-Petersen if there was any word from Golden and if she was OK.

“I received a text message from the commissioner and she is recuperating and doing well,” James-Petersen said.

Harris County Texas Police and a Houston ABC News affiliate report four family members were attacked. The ABC News affiliate reports Benjamin Harris, age 25, was acting erratically in the hours before the incident. He reportedly attacked a sister, his mother and another relative which may be Golden.

As of Tuesday Harris was under arrest pending bail.

Golden has not responded to an email asking for comment.
