The V.I. Police Department on Tuesday arrested 33-year-old Darren Hodge after a chase that started in a school zone, police reported.
According to the VIPD, at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, officers were in the area of Alton Adams Drive when they saw a man – later identified as Hodge – operating a vehicle with heavily tinted window driving at a high rate of speed through the Charlotte Amalie High School district.
According to the report, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as Hodge, refused to stop. The driver was alerted with blue lights and siren but the car increased its speed as the driver continued to try to evade the police.
Police say the driver of the vehicle overtook and passed several cars, driving erratically as he traveled east on Raphune Hill and finally stopped when other officers managed to create a road block near the top of Raphune Hill.
Hodge was then given several orders by the police to exit his vehicle and refused to comply.
Hodge was placed under arrest and charged with reckless endangerment, aggravated assault and battery and several other traffic violations. Bail was set at $50,000. Hodge was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections Detention Facility pending advise of rights hearing.
