Arthur Howell, a St. Thomas native, will be inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2019.

He is a Division III Women’s Basketball assistant coach inductee who has worked for Emmanuel College for 26 seasons as an assistant basketball coach. Howell has helped guide the college team to a 565-185 (.753) overall record and 271-14 (.951) in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with 21 consecutive winning seasons.

Howell has been with the Emmanuel Saints for 16 GNAC Championships and NCAA Tournament runs, including Emmanuel College’s appearance in the NCAA Final Four in 2001, Sweet Sixteen in 2007 and Elite Eight in 2012. He will be inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2019.

A STEP UP is an assistant coaches’ professional development symposium founded by Johnny and Felicia Allen that will celebrate 10 years of educating, equipping, connecting and inspiring college assistant basketball coaches at all levels of the game. To commemorate their 10th anniversary, the Allens — along with their board of directors and support from presenting sponsor Glen Wright with Worth Advisors — will celebrate by establishing the A STEP UP Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame presented by Worth Advisors.

This is the first Hall of Fame of its kind that specifically recognizes NCAA Divisions I, II and III men and women assistant basketball coaches. A STEP UP provides professional development for coaches. The Class of 2019 will be the inaugural class inducted into the Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame on Tuesday, May 7, during the Symposium’s Legends Breakfast at the downtown Sheraton Atlanta Hotel.
