The V.I. Police Department on Sunday arrested 36-year-old Junior Jones of Contant late Sunday and charged assault/domestic violence.
According to police, at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday the Domestic Violence Unit was advised of an assault at Estate Contant. Officers made contact with a woman who said she had been assaulted by a male acquaintance.
The victim, whose name was not released by police pursuant to department polucy, told officers that Junior Jones had threatened to do her bodily harm when she asked him when he would return to work. She said he grabbed her by her neck and strangled her until she threw punches at him to get away from him.
The woman said Jones armed himself with a baseball bat and continued to swing it at her, making threats to hit her in her head, so she armed herself with a kitchen knife and when he approached her doing same she cut him on his upper forearm.
Shortly before midnight Sunday Jones was advised of his constitutional rights and placed under arrest. Police said he was charged with second-degree assault/domestic violence, disturbance of the peace by threats/DV, and destruction of property/DV.
Jones was booked, processed and turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing. No bail was set as per domestic violence law.
