Island Vibes Summer Camp Emphasizes Olympic Spirit, Sportsmanship

Island VIBES Summer Camp

Island Vibes Summer Camp (IVSC) is a private, non-profit organization that was created to bring a unique summer experience to the U.S. Virgin Islands so that young athletes may have the opportunity to improve their skills and explore new cultures with paradise as the backdrop. Vibes Camp aims to help each camper achieve their highest level of athletic ability through healthy competition, sportsmanship and incorporating Olympic philosophy.

Offering sports and various cultural activities in a Caribbean setting, it is an amazing experience every camper will want to write home about. The objectives of the camp are to offer access to a world class coaching staff, emphasize the importance of team work and environmental responsibility, create a larger sports network for Virgin Islands athletes, encourage campers to consider the University of the Virgin Islands for furthering their education, expose campers to V.I. culture and experiences, and create a safe and structured environment for campers to make friends from around the world.

The camp has two main programs. The “Younger Vibes” program for youths ages 5-10 introduces campers to the world of sports while allowing them to engage in many experiences such as arts and crafts, swimming, golf, fencing, basketball, gardening and more. The volleyball program with Gylton Da Matta Ph.D. is for campers ages 11-17. It is an intensive training that includes both court and beach volleyball techniques.

More information on both programs can be found on www.islandvibessummercamp.org.
