Pedestrian Hit By Truck, Suffers Major Injuries, Police Report

 

A 60-year-old man has been flown off-island for medical care after he was struck by a truck on Sunday night while crossing Rumer Drive on St. Thomas, according to the V.I. Police Department.

Police said the accident happened about 8:39 p.m. after the man walked in the southbound lane of Rumer Drive, near the Oswald Harris Court housing community, and was struck by a Mack commercial vehicle that was heading south.

The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition with major injuries, police said. He has since been flown out of the territory for additional medical care, according to a VIPD press release.

The investigation into this accident is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the VIPD Traffic Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211.
