Deputy Territorial Chief Public Defender Vacancy
(St. Thomas/St. John District)
The Deputy Territorial Chief Public Defender works under the direction and supervision of the Chief Public Defender. The Deputy Territorial Chief Public Defender is the supervisor of the attorneys within their respective District Office.
Principle Duties: (Not All Inclusive)
Supervise day to day activities of Assistant Public Defenders; First point of contact with the Virgin Islands Courts and public regarding OTPD representation; He/she will serve as client’s counselor and advocate with courage and devotion to the utmost of his/her learning ability and according to law; Represent his/her clients zealously within the bounds of the law; Protect the rights of the clients; Research or cause to be researched the applicable laws, cases, statutes, etc. to the client’s case; Interview witnesses and prepares them when applicable for trial and represent clients in a zealous manner within the bounds of the law.
Requirements: A Jurist Doctorate Degree from an accredited Law School and admission to the Virgin Islands Bar; or Special Admissions in accordance with Supreme Court Rule (202) with commitment on taking the V.I. Bar Examination.
