The Tamarind Reef Resort Beach and the Deep End Bar kicked off Holidays in the Night Time Skies with a big Thanksgiving weekend toy drive party. Starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, the grounds were full of people supporting the event and having a wonderful evening.

DJ Willard played Crucian Christmas music as youngsters and their parents talked with Santa Claus. All ages were entertained by performances of The Guardians of Culture Moko Jumbies and Pure Fire Kiki’s Fire Dancers.

Fireworks on the beach began at 7:30 p.m. and lasted for 15 minutes. The crowd clapped, shouted and showed their appreciation for the awesome show.

Mamas Black Sheep, in from Baltimore, Maryland, for this and the Saturday night show in Frederiksted, played to a packed house. There was dancing and fun had by all.

Elena Hensley, one of the event coordinators, said on Sunday, “The East End had a marvelous turnout of children visiting Santa. There were three big boxes filled with toys.”

The Saturday night party in Frederiksted “filled the streets with close to 500 people dancing and watching fireworks. Many participated in meeting Santa and supporting the Toy Drive. We are all so very pleased and surprised at the success of these two Holidays in the Night Times Skies Events,” said Hensley.

“Now the real collection begins. Drop boxes are placed throughout the island and we are taking checks written to Holidays in the Night Time Skies. The checks will be used to purchase gift certificates for food, toys, etc. to give to families less fortunate. We plan to distribute to the families before December 22nd. Thank you for helping us make a happy holiday this year for many children and families on St. Croix,” said Hensley.

Checks can be sent to:
