The Department of Planning and Natural Resources is beginning a new initiative and invites the community to share its passion for protecting natural and cultural resources, Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol announced Tuesday.
Each month a new theme and challenge will be announced that will demonstrate examples of how the community can join in the celebration of natural and cultural resources, according to a press release announcing the program.
The initiative is kicking off on Jan. 27 with “Blue Ocean Friday.”
The community is asked to join the department by wearing the color blue and doing one good deed on Friday to show commitment to protecting our coastal resources, according to the release.
“I’m excited to see the creativity each participant will bring to this initiative,” said Oriol. “Whether you are pledging to use your reusable cup all day or go outside and pick up five pieces of litter, each of us can do one extra thing to show our commitment to protecting our coastal resources,” he said.
This initiative will continue all year with challenges that will highlight the missions of each of the DPNR divisions, so keep an eye out for February’s theme, the release stated.
