Office of Insular Affairs Awards $2.5M in Technical Assistance Grants to GVI, Other USVI Entities

The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs has awarded more than $1.2 to the Government of the Virgin Islands (GVI) for four separate projects through the federal agency’s Technical Assistance Program (TAP).

In addition, the Office of Insular Affairs awarded $1.3 million in TAP grants to semi-autonomous agencies, non-profit organizations, and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

The funding being awarded to the GVI is for projects submitted by the following agencies:

  • $655,423 to the Virgin Islands Fire and EMS Service for the Acquisition of Emergency Response Vehicles, as detailed in the proposal submitted on March 6, 2023.
  • $300,000 to the Bureau of Information Technology for the Business Process Improvement Technology Solutions project, as detailed in the proposal submitted on March 17, 2023.
  • $200,000 to the Office of the Governor to Facilitate Programming for the Commemoration of 175 Years of Emancipation in the Virgin Islands project, as detailed in the proposal submitted on March 24, 2023.
  • $60,000 to the Department of Planning and Natural Resources for the National Historic Register Boundaries Update for the Catherineberg-Jockumsdahl-Herman Farm District project, as detailed in the proposal submitted on Nov. 18, 2022.

The Office of Insular Affairs is also awarding TAP funding to semi-autonomous agencies, non-profit organizations, and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for the benefit of the USVI as follows:

  • $658,050 to the Virgin Islands Architecture Center for Built Heritage and Crafts, Inc. (VIAC) for the VIAC Capacity Building Initiative program.
  • $296,968 to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for the project to Improve the Sustainability of Water Resources in a Changing Climate — Estimating Groundwater Recharge on St. Croix.
  • $296,500 to the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority for the Water Distribution Training project.
  • $62,010 to the Ocean Foundation for the Developing Outreach Programs and Mentoring Youth at Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge project.
