BEACHJAM ORGANIZERS: 'WE MET 90% OF GOALS'

Amidst naysayers and critics, the organizers of BeachJam '99 pushed on, made it over hurdles and jumped through the necessary hoops to make the event, by anyone's standards, a success. Steve Bornn, executive producer of BeachJam '99, said his group met 90 percent of its goals.

GOODWIN ECONOMIZES ON CAR, FURNITURE

Sen. George Goodwin is using recycled furniture to equip his Senate office and has again refused use of a government-assigned vehicle, as he did during his term in the 22nd Legislature.
Goodwin called buying new office furniture "irresponsible, inconsiderate and wasteful" in view of the government's fiscal crisis, and urged his colleagues to curtail excessive spending too.

SEN. GOMEZ CALLS FOR YOUTH SUMMIT

Sen. Judy Gomez, who chairs the new 23rd Legislature's Youth and Human Services Committee, presented plans for a youth summit this week, saying she wanted "all entities responsible for youth issues" to be represented.
That would include the Departments of Education, Human Services, Health, and
Housing, Parks and Recreation.
