Friends of Virgin Islands National Park will host a community presentation on “The Effects of Hurricane Irma on St John’s Vegetation and Native Wildlife.” In the immediate aftermath of Irma, the total defoliation of the forests was the most shocking and disorienting effect for many people. Seven months later, it’s still obvious that the island’s shores and forests will take decades to recover. The unprecedented level of damage is also an unprecedented learning opportunity. Join naturalist Eleanor Gibney for a Power Point presentation and discussion of observations of the terrestrial nature on St. John since Sept. 6. Everyone is welcome.
