Senate: Homeland Security, Justice, Public Safety

Agenda:
The committee will conduct a hearing to receive updates from the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA) and the Virgin Islands National Guard (VING) regarding their preparedness for the 2018 hurricane season. Moreover, the relative agencies will provide specific information and strategies that their departments have implemented to streamline the process for potential future disasters to our territory.

In addition, the committee will receive an update from the Virgin Islands Bureau of Motor Vehicles relative to the status and implementation of the territory’s REAL ID program, which is due October 10, 2018.

Finally, the committee will receive an overview from the Virgin Islands Port Authority regarding the $1.4 million fine initiated by the Federal Aviation Administration against their agency due to their failure to meet federal port safety and hazard mitigation standards. Additionally, they will provide a brief synopsis regarding all security challenges and applied corrective measures used to resolve the identified problems at our airports, seaports, docks and other facilities under the direct management and supervision of the Virgin Islands Port Authority.

BLOCK III – 3:10 p.m. to 5 p.m.
