Senate: Homeland Security, Justice, Public Safety

Agenda:
The committee will conduct a meeting to consider the following bills:
Block 1
Bill No. 32-0218 – An Act amending Title 5, Virgin Islands Code, chapter 314, relating to the expungement of criminal records
(Proposed by Senator Janelle K. Sarauw)
Block II
Bill No. 32-0241 – An Act amending Title 23, V.I.C., chapter 10, sections 1006 and 1007, relating to the Virgin Islands Emergency Management Plan and Virgin Islands Territorial Management and Homeland Security Council
(Proposed by Sen. Dwayne M. DeGraff)
Block III
Bill No. 32-0216 – An Act amending Title 23, V.I.C., chapter 16, expanding the powers and duties of the Peace Officers Standard and Training Council
(Proposed by Senators Brian A. Smith, Myron D. Jackson and Nereida Rivera-O’Reilly)
In addition, the committee will receive an update from the Virgin Islands Bureau of Motor Vehicles relative to the status and implementation of the territory’s REAL ID program, which is due Oct. 10, 2018.

Finally, the committee will receive an overview from the Virgin Islands Port Authority regarding the $1.4 million fine initiated by the Federal Aviation Administration against their agency due to their failure to meet federal port safety and hazard mitigation standards.

Additionally, they will provide a brief synopsis regarding all security challenges and applied corrective measures used to resolve the identified problems at airports, seaports, docks and other facilities under the direct management and supervision of the Virgin Islands Port Authority.
