
Virgin Islands Sports Ambassador Michelle Smith, a senior at Montverde Academy and the University of Georgia commit, took part in the Florida High School FHSAA 2A State Championships in Jacksonville, Florida, on Thursday, May 16.
Smith won the state championship in the 100m Hurdles. She finished first and ran a new Virgin Islands U20 record and Montverde school record with a time of 13.77, according to the press release.

Smith also became the state champion in the 400m Hurdles, running a Florida State Championship Meet record of 57.82, the press release stated.

Smith placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 5.70 meters. In addition, Smith played a significant role in her victorious 4x400m Relay Team, which completed their race in a new Florida State Championship meet record of 3:40.75, the release stated.
Smith and her team were the undisputed winners of the state championship, amassing a point total of 117 points, while Bolles High School placed second with 76 points, according to the release.

Smith graduated from high school on Saturday and will run her final high school races at the New Balance Outdoor National Championships at Franklin Field in Philadelphia from June 13 to 16, it said.
