The news of the passing of 51-year-old Craig Todman, also known as “Tygah,” has flooded social media timelines with tributes and somber words. Tygah, well-known on St. Croix, particularly in the Frederiksted community, passed away on Monday.
The V.I. Police Department reported that around 5:38 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a call regarding a missing diver. It was reported that the man went diving off the Fisherman’s Dock in Frederiksted around 9 a.m. and had not returned.
His body was found and identified by next of kin.
The Source reached out to a few platforms to share the words community members shared about the passing of Tygah.
Local music artist Pressure Busspipe said, “Tygah was like a big brother to me, and I could only imagine to everybody he came in touch with. A true Freedom City Legend and he will be missed greatly.”
Videos of this “Freedom City Legend,” to which most referred to him, were also shared. One shared after Hurricane Maria by KGP Virgin Islands, entitled “The Maria Effect: In Frederiksted,” shows Tygah sharing the damages done after the storms. His positive outlook provides words of inspiration and encouragement. He said in the video, “Thank God for life and we deh yah, we have experienced this already. This is the Caribbean, we got to expect these things. We just got to push ourselves to deal with it and we build from there.”

Social media figure “West Gyul” also posted a tribute for Tygah on Tuesday, saying, “There is a feeling I get when I’m in Frederiksted town. I don’t know how to explain it fully. Feels like family, comfort, HOME, protection. Reassurance that I’m surrounded by genuine people and love. Call it West Enders privilege but it’s a place I feel most safe in this world since a little girl. For me, Tyga and the men from Frederiksted embody these emotions. Can’t imagine how they are feeling today after losing him. All I can do is pray for strength. For his family, his friends and everyone he shared his love and laughter with. AWOH.”
Another social media figure named “Shatta Nova,” shared Pressure singing one of his new songs entitled “Destiny.” In the video you can see Tygah sitting next to Pressure.

As the tributes continue to pour in, “Legendz Lounge,” a local business on the west side, will be hosting an event filled with good vibes, good music, and shared memories in honor of Tygah.
Other tributes and arrangements have not yet been shared.
