UVI Offers Prehospital Trauma Education

The gold standard in Prehospital Trauma Education is scheduled for Dec. 4 at the UVI Medical Simulation Center, Albert A. Sheen Campus in St. Croix

The gold standard in Prehospital Trauma Education and Life Support (PHTLS) is the premier continuing education program developed by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). It is recognized globally and taught in over 80 countries.

Training starts Dec. 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the UVI Medical Simulation Center, Albert A. Sheen Campus in St. Croix.

The PHTLS course uses case studies, skills practice, and patient simulations to emphasize the application of medical principles. It covers the appropriate treatment of multi-system trauma patients and includes the following topics:

  • Physiology of life and death
  • Scene assessment
  • Patient assessment
  • Hemorrhage control
  • Airway management
  • Breathing, ventilation, and oxygenation
  • Circulation and shock management
  • Special populations

Registration Details:

  • Fee: $250
  • Includes: PHTLS hybrid training course (online component + in-person hands-on skills training)

PHTLS is ideal for EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, and other prehospital practitioners. The course is accredited by CAPCE and recognized by NREMT for recertification requirements.
