Gun Owner Injured in Accidental Discharge

A licensed gun owner accidentally shot himself in the leg at Festival Village on St. Croix on Sunday, the V.I. Police Department reported.

At approximately 9:53 p.m., officers responded to a report of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim, a licensed gun owner, stated that while on a ride with his minor child, he was adjusting his firearm holster, which was in an Appendix Carry position; the weapon discharged, striking him in the right calf, according to the police report.

A Crime Scene Technician collected the firearm, a Canik MC9 9mm, and a spent shell casing at the scene. The victim sustained a superficial wound and was treated and released at the hospital. No other injuries were reported, the police report stated.
