Territory Records Second Homicide of 2025 with Shooting on St. Croix

A man was found dead with what appeared to be gunshot wounds on Friday morning on St. Croix, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The 911 Emergency Call Center received notifications from the ShotSpotter detection system of shots fired in Estate Glynn, near The Crab Queen restaurant, at 5:22 a.m., according to the report. Officers checked the area but found nothing amiss, it said.

However, at 8:44 a.m., a concerned citizen reported a man down in a vacant lot adjacent to the restaurant. Officers responded and found the man with what appeared to be gunshot wounds “about his body.”

The victim was identified at the scene by next-of-kin as Rey Enrique Romero, 45.

Romero’s death marks the territory’s second homicide of the year, according to the Source Homicide List.* The first occurred on Jan. 4, when Jahkeem Joseph, 25, was found shot to death in Estate Bovoni on St. Thomas.

Both cases remain under investigation. Anyone with information should call 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-778-2211 or Crime Stoppers VI at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).

*The Source Homicide List is a chronological log of the homicides recorded in 2025 in the U.S. Virgin Islands, as reported by the VIPD. Cases are broken down by island. While this listing is based on VIPD reports, the Source does not include suicides or vehicular homicides in its listing, which the police and some other media do. This can lead to a discrepancy in the number of incidents reported.
