St. Croix Man Sentenced in Firearm Case

Jimmar A. Payne, 31, was sentenced to four years probation, including 90 days of home confinement, a $8,000 fine and a $25 special assessment for illegal firearm possession near a school. District Judge Wilma A. Lewis handed down the sentence following Payne’s guilty plea, United States Attorney Delia L. Smith announced.

The sentence stems from a Jan. 29, 2022, incident where a Virgin Islands Police Department officer stopped Payne’s vehicle for a missing license plate and discovered a handgun. Payne lacked a license to possess a firearm, according to court documents.
