The Virgin Islands Department of Labor is accepting applications for two summer internships.
Founded in 1989, the Labor Investing for Tomorrow (LIFT) Summer Internship Program is one of the Virgin Islands’ most outstanding work experiences.
The LIFT program is an 8-week paid internship that offers college juniors, seniors, recent graduates, and graduate students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience. Interns will work up to thirty (30) hours per week and receive hourly compensation.
In addition to gaining practical work experience, LIFT interns will engage in mentorship initiatives, enhance their growth through workshops and community experience, and develop skills with the option to earn college credits.
The eligibility requirements include the following:
• Completed at least 60 credit hours or more.
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
• Submission of an official transcript.
• Current resume.
• Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency.
• Valid photo ID.
• Be between the ages of 18 – 25, inclusive.
To apply for this highly competitive program, interested individuals must complete the LIFT application online at www.vidol.gov/youth. Apply as soon as possible as space is limited this year. The application deadline is April 11, 2025.
The Summer Youth Work Experience Program is the largest youth employment program in the Virgin Islands, providing opportunities for youth between the ages of 14 to 25 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experiences every summer.
This year VIDOL anticipates providing summer opportunities for more than six hundred (600) youth. Selected applications ages 14 and 15 will participate in a versatile four (4) week career exploration program introducing them to the world of work. Selected participants ages 16 to 25 will participate in an enriching five (5) week summer experience with placements in the private and public sectors.
Priority will be given to applicants that have not previously received a work experience, high school Juniors and Seniors, dislocated youth, and applications that are received in a timely manner with the supporting documents.
Interested youth can apply online at www.vidol.gov/youth. Applicants will need to submit the following documents when applying:
• Proof of Citizenship or Legal Residency Status (Passport, Birth Certificate OR Permanent Resident Card)
• Proof of enrollment in High School/College, Basic Education or Adult Continuing Education (Report Card,
Diploma or Degree)
• Valid Picture ID (School or Driver’s License)
• Resume (if available)
• Social Security Card (required to submit when selected)
Youth, under the age of 18 application should be signed by a parent/guardian to authorize participation in the program.
The deadline to apply is Friday, April 11, 2025.
