The V.I. Police Department is working to identify the name and cause of death of a male person found floating face down in Coral Bay Harbor, St. John, on Sunday morning.
According to a report VIPD released Monday morning, officials were notified of a body found floating in the harbor around 10:26 a.m. Sunday.
“Upon the officer’s arrival, they made contact with a citizen who stated that they were in the area of Coral Bay Harbor when they observed a body floating in the water,” the report stated.
“Emergency responders conducted a search of the area and located an unidentified Caucasian male that was observed floating face down in the water. The male was extracted from the water by members of St. John Rescue and had no vital signs,” it said.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to identify the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding his death, according to the report.
The VIPD is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact 911, the Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 extensions 5553, 5554, 5555, or 5556, the Chief’s Office at 340-715-5546, or the Commissioner’s Office at 340-715-5506.
Last month, a woman was found in Salt Pond on St. John. She was later identified as Julia Reynolds, 43, and preliminary investigation indicated that she drowned and suffered postmortem trauma caused by marine life, according to the VIPD.
