Beatrice G. Hunt Dies in New York
Beatrice G. Hunt died on June 28 in New York. She was born in Corning, N.Y., on Feb. 28, 1912. She was 99 years old.
Bea lived in Niagara Falls most of her life and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Sergeant College of Boston University in 1934 and her master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin.
She taught physical education in the Niagara Falls Public Schools and became the assistant to the director of physical education at New York State University at Cortland.
She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Niagara Falls for 60 years. After moving to Plattsburgh, N.Y., she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Bea lived on the island of St. John for 18 winters. She was one of the first recipients of the National Park Service Volunteer of the Year award in 1988.
Survivors include two cousins: Margaret Nelson of Longview Texas and Ruth Wolf of Farmington, N.Y. as well as lifelong friends: Nancy and Thelma Douglas and Katie Trout, who became her surrogate family.
She was predeceased by her sister, Rhea Hunt.
