A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after officers observed his vehicle traveling on the wrong side of Northside Road on St. Croix, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.
The incident occurred at about 8:40 p.m. Sunday, when officers saw the vehicle traveling in the wrong lane before the driver turned into the G-Max Service Station, according to the VIPD police report. Officers then made contact with the driver, identified as Francisco Salas, and began an investigation.
Police said officers suspected Salas was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. According to the report, Salas refused to submit to standardized field sobriety tests and declined to provide a breath sample for an intoximeter test. He was then arrested on a charge of driving under the influence.
Salas was transported to the John A. Bell Correctional Facility, where he was remanded pending his advice of rights hearing, police said.
