Local fifth and sixth graders are all set to get organized for a successful school year with their own personal day planners, compliments of St. Croix Rotary Clubs and Innovative Companies.
Friday at Alexander Henderson Elementary School, the students appeared excited as members of Rotary and V.I. National Guard members handed out the Coole School Planners.
“We are giving you these planners so everyone can get ready today for tomorrow,” Rotarian Deborah Howell said, as she addressed the students in the auditorium. Howell said her daughter uses a planner and it has been very helpful for her as a parent. “They can work on time management which is crucial for success.”
Jennifer Matarangas-King, vice president of public relations and government affairs of Innovative Companies, said the planners are a wonderful tool for the students to start planning their days as they will have to do when they get older.
“The planner is good for me to write down homework assignments and put in the days I have tests,” Conrad Laurent, sixth grade student, said. “I always have it with me in my book bag.”
“I like the idea that the students are able to be organized for each day’s assignments and lessons,” Claudette Thomas-Smith, fifth grade teacher at Alexander Henderson, said. She added it is also helpful for parents and teachers to write notes about the students.
