Viya Informs Customers of New Cable TV System, New 4GLTE Network

Formerly Innovative and Choice Wireless

During the last year, Viya has continued to improve the quality of communication and entertainment for U.S. Virgin Islands customers, despite the challenges faced in the wakes of hurricanes Irma and Maria. Since September 2017, Viya has been standing connected with the community, as it provides public hotspots and launched mi-fi hotspots on its first-class 4GLTE wireless network to ensure that although its wired services were damaged, Viya could provide service to customers. Customers are able to access voice, data and video as a result of the new 4GLTE network.

As a result of launching a new cable system, effective Feb. 15, 2018, Viya will launch three tiers: Basic, Expanded and “HD Flex.” The “HD Flex” has 71 channels (basic plus an additional 41 channels), including many of the most watched channels like CNN, Fox News, ESPN, MLB, The Golf Channel, Lifetime, Bravo, OWN, TBS and Cartoon Network that were previously available only with Expanded Service. Best of all, the “HD Flex Tier” is only $59.99. Customers who have high-definition converters will also be able to view the HD versions of the aforementioned 41 channels.

To further enhance the viewing experience, the channels will be re-aligned by category to make it more user-friendly, and all High-Definition (HD) channels will be numerically aligned with Standard Definition (SD) channels.

The rates for Basic Service and the Expanded Service are:

 Basic- $14.99 plus applicable taxes and fees = $17.47

 Expanded- $77.25 plus applicable taxes and fees = $82.84

For many years, Viya has had a rate increase every February. In 2017, it did not increase the rates even though it absorbed cost increases from content providers. In September 2017, its cable system was destroyed and effectively shut down by two Category 5 hurricanes. Currently, it is in the midst of building a new cable system and introducing a new cable product. However, given the cost of rebuilding, limitations on the system, and the rising cost of content, the company has decided to launch with new lineups of channels and has created a middle tier tailored for local residents that provides customers with increased choices. Viya created these new tiers based upon what U.S.V.I. residents want.

For more information about Viya’s Cable TV programming and upcoming changes, customers are encouraged to check the website at www.viya.vi. Revised channel line-ups will also be available at the Customer Experience Centers located at Tutu Park on St. Thomas and Estate Diamond on St. Croix. Customers can also call 777-VIYA (8492) for more information.

In the near future, Viya intends to launch new channels including Sprout, popular children’s content and Olympic Channel. Stay tuned as Viya plans to announce further developments that will showcase its new network.
