The V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency along with Public Works, police and firefighters responded Wednesday evening into the morning to reports of partial flooding taking place in downtown Frederiksted and surrounding areas on St. Croix.
According to a VITEMA release, the storms resulted in minor repair of infrastructure including power, roads, telecommunications, and internet service were all operational. St. Croix experienced power outages.
At 8:10 pm Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service in San Juan, Puerto Rico issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for St. Croix effective until 11:15 p.m. Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms which had dropped up to four inches of rain across western St. Croix, with an additional one to two inches expected overnight. Precautionary and preparedness actions were advised.
A flood warning was initiated by VITEMA at 8:22 p.m. via the ALERT VI mass notification network and through its social media channels, informing residents and businesses of impending heavy rain and hazardous traffic conditions throughout all low-lying areas.
