A St. Thomas woman is being charged with credit card fraud after stealing a man’s wallet at a local restaurant, the V.I. Police Department reported Wednesday.
The Economic Crime Unit initiated an investigation after fraudulent use of a credit was reported. The complainant reported that he misplaced his wallet at Mon Cheri Café located at Nisky Center, according to the police report.
He was unaware that his wallet was missing until he received a text notification from his bank alerting him of fraudulent activity on his account. The complainant traveled to the various businesses where his credit card was used and was informed that his card was used at Starz Car Rental to reserve a rental vehicle and was due to return to the business on June 27, the police report stated.
On Tuesday, detectives were notified by the owners of Starz Car Rental that their rental vehicle was seen in the Banco Popular Altone branch drive-thru. Detectives intercepted the rental vehicle and arrested 25-year-old Daliqua Moses, the report stated.
The investigation revealed that Moses took possession of the complainant’s wallet and used it without his permission. She also charged more than $300 at various local businesses. Moses was arrested and charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, grand larceny, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and buying, receiving or possessing of stolen property. The bail was set at $25,000 and Moses was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending her advice of rights hearing.
