Schneider Regional Medical Center Addresses Patient Privacy Concerns

Schneider Regional Medical Center is aware of recent community concerns regarding patient privacy and alleged breaches of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). We want to reassure our community that we take these concerns very seriously.

SRMC has strict policies and protocols in place to safeguard the confidentiality of all patient information. Any potential or alleged HIPAA violation will be fully investigated by our Legal and Compliance Department. If any violation is confirmed, it will be addressed with the utmost seriousness in accordance with federal law and hospital policy.

In a close-knit community, sensitive information about patients may end up in public space, but not necessarily from inappropriate or illegal disclosures by hospital staff or breach of confidentiality by our staff.

At SRMC, patient confidentiality is one of our core values. At onboarding and throughout their tenure, staff receive continuous training and re-education on the importance of protecting patient privacy.

We stand with our community in offering compassion, respect, and support to those affected by loss.

We also thank our staff who work tirelessly every day to care for patients who are committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, respect, and confidentiality. We know how important it is to protect the trust placed in us by our community.

We encourage anyone who has specific knowledge or evidence of a HIPAA violation to report it directly to SRMC’s Legal and Compliance Department and assure the public it will be properly reviewed and addressed.

Keeping our community informed is our top priority.
