Detectives Arrest Woman After Allegedly Pulling Child by Hair

A woman was arrested Wednesday after detectives on patrol reported seeing her pull a child by the hair and forcibly jerk the minor on St. Croix, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Police identified the suspect as Alexis Vazquez.

The incident occurred at about 11:06 a.m. Wednesday while detectives were on patrol, the VIPD police report.

Police said detectives intervened after witnessing the incident, but Vazquez became belligerent and refused to comply with their commands.

Vazquez was arrested and charged with child abuse and simple assault and battery-domestic violence, the police report stated.

She was transported to the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station, where she was booked. No bail was set. She was later transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending an advice of rights hearing scheduled for Thursday in Superior Court.
