13 ARTISTS FEATURED IN ALEXANDER'S NEW SHOW

June 13, 2002 – A group showing in multiple media is opening on Friday at Alexander's Café in Frenchtown, and many of the featured artists will be on hand for the champagne reception from 5 to 7 p.m.
New works by Ahmed Alarefi, Aphrodite, Edie Paljavcsik Johnson, Lynn Paccassi-Berry, Jessica Rosenberg and Frances Rutnik, all of St. Thomas; and Bente Hirsch, Francine Jacobson, Marcia Reed Hendricks, Deborah St. Clair, Patty Tacquard, Mandy A. Thody and Denise Wright, all of St. John, will be on display. The mediums of oil, watercolor, acrylic, photography, mixed media, monotype and clay will be represented, as will representational and abstract styles.
The group show "celebrates the diversity of artistic style" of the 13 artists, showcasing their work in the intimate atmosphere of Alexander's restaurant.
Titled "Virgin Island Artists: Recent Works," the exhibition will hang through July 11. All works are available for purchase opening night and for the duration of the show. Each piece is accompanied by an artist’s statement about it.
The public is invited to the reception, which will include complimentary champagne and appetizers and a chance on a gift from participating artist Aphrodite.
Alexander's Café features a new artist or group or artists each month. For dinner following Friday's reception, reservations are requested. They may be made by calling 774-4349.
