UVI Hosting 48 Future Global Leaders at 8th Summer Institute
UVI's 8th annual Summer Institute for Future Global Leaders opens May 20 on the St. Thomas campus. Forty-eight student scholars from the Caribbean and the United States will take part in a two-week series of classes and laboratory sessions on the global business environment, leadership, and culture and communications. The 2002 institute is designed to equip future leaders to deal with the dynamic elements in our increasingly global environment, according to institute director Dr. Solomon Kabuka. Caribbean Repertory Company to Revive "For Better, For Worse"
The Reichhold Center's Caribbean Repertory Theatre Company will present a revival of David Edgecombe's comedy, "For Better, For Worse," with 16 performances scheduled to begin June 7 in the Little Theatre on the St. Thomas campus. To reserve tickets call 693-1559.
Recognition Week to Honor UVI Employees, Promote Scholarships
UVI's Division of Human Resources encourages the university community to join in the V.I. government's celebration of Public Service Recognition Week, which continues through May 24.
Highlights of the week include a UVI benefit walk-a-thon on St. Thomas and on St. Croix on Tuesday, May 21. Proceeds will go to the UVI scholarship effort of the Tom Joyner Foundation. Walks start at 5:45 p.m. from V.I. Division of Personnel offices on both St. Thomas and St. Croix. To obtain a walk-a-thon sign-up sheet or for more information on events, call 693-1424.
UVI employees Stevie Henry and Quilin Mars are among V.I. government "Employees of the Year" who will be honored in ceremonies Thursday and Friday. Henry is a geographic information systems analyst in the Eastern Caribbean Center. Mars is administrative assistant for the "Caribbean Writer."
"Caps for Cash" Collection Continues; Joyner to Visit May 29
The Tom Joyner Foundation scholarship fund drive continues throughout May. Coca-Cola will donate $1,000 in scholarship funds for UVI students for each large container of Coca-Cola product caps collected during May. Deposit barrels are located on both campuses and at island businesses.
A benefit luncheon featuring Tom Joyner himself is scheduled for May 29 at Bluebeard's Castle Hotel. Tickets are available at the Reichhold box office.
Youth Movie Making Workshop Scheduled
Friday, May 24, is the deadline for applications for the second annual Youth Movie Making Workshop, scheduled to run from June 24 through August 9 at UVI's Reichhold Center. Space is available for 15 participants between ages 13 and 21. For details call 693-1550.
