WAPA BUILDING UP STORAGE OF POTABLE WATER

The Water and Power Authority is building up its storage of potable water after having completed its first major overhaul of the St. John desalination unit, IDE-7, in April, according to a WAPA release.
While pumping has resumed on a 24-hour basis and there is no longer any rationing to Cruz Bay customers on the distribution system, the release states, "there may be cutbacks at the standpipe, depending on water production capabilities and water demand."
Because water in the storage tanks was at low levels when WAPA completed the overhaul of the unit last month, it said, "the authority is taking time to build up its water storage."
