Hibiscus Show, Sale Set for Feb. 22

Jan. 21, 2009 – Hibiscus fanciers and growers are invited to the 31st annual Hibiscus Show and Plant sale Feb. 22 at the Austin "Babe" Monsanto Marine Terminal at the Sub Base.
"A pretty hibiscus is like a pretty smile, says Mario Francis, St. Thomas Hibiscus Society president.
Francis urges anyone with a bloom, possibly as "pretty as a smile," to bring them to the terminal between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. to be entered in the show, which is open to the public at 1 p.m. The show is free to the public, plants will be for sale, and there is a raffle.
Francis was elected president for another term at the Society's annual meeting in January, where Clement "Cain" Magras and Johanny Magras were honored as "2008 Hibiscus Growers of the Year." Amanda Morrison, 12, earned the "Young Hibiscus Enthusiast of the Year," and John Gifft was presented with the "Nurseryman of the Year" award.
For further information, call Francis at 643-0402 or 774-3745.
