DPNR Announces New Director of Fish and Wildlife

Beulah Dalmida-Smith has been hired as the new director of the Division of Fish and Wildlife, according to a press release from Commissioner of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources Robert S. Mathes. “Mrs. Dalmida-Smith comes to the department with great academic credentials and a vast amount of experience all essential to leading this division,”Mathes said.

Born and raised on St. John, Dalmida-Smith attended the Guy Benjamin Elementary and Julius E Sprauve Schools on St. John, and Charlotte Amalie High on St. Thomas. She later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from the University of the Virgin Islands and a Masters of Environmental Science and Conservation Biology from Yale University, School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. She is presently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of North Carolina in Environmental and Land Use Planning.
Dalmida-Smith is a former commissioner of DPNR and most recently has worked for the V.I. National Park Service on St. John and Christiansted Historic Sites on St. Croix.
She is the proud mother of three children: Winston, Whitney and Sage.
