Frederiksted Murder Suspects Extradited From Los Angeles

Two people wanted in connection with a 2008 murder in Frederiksted have been arrested in Los Angeles and returned to the Virgin Islands, where they are in custody in the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.

Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives arrested Glensley Buntin, 38, and Robin Lucas, 46, of Los Angeles, Calif. The pair are wanted in connection with the murder of 31-year-old Craig Liburd.

According to a statement from the V.I. Police Department, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau received information that Buntin and Lucas were living in Los Angeles and contacted police and Justice Department officials in that city to assist with extraditing the suspects.

Buntin and Lucas were identified by detectives as suspects following Liburd’s murder, which took place about 9:40 p.m. June 26, 2008, in the vicinity of King Cross and Queen Street in Frederiksted.

The detectives obtained the full cooperation of the Los Angeles Police Department and the Justice Department in that city, according to the police statement. Buntin and Lucas were immediately identified through the National Crime Information Center and detained. The suspects were held by California authorities for approximately three weeks while court documents and other authorizations were being completed in order to bring the suspects back to the territory.

St. Croix detectives and officials from the V.I. Justice Department traveled to Los Angeles on Tuesday, Dec. 8, and returned to the territory with the suspects on Saturday.

The suspects were advised of their rights Monday. They were held on bails of $50,000 each and remanded to the correctional facility pending further court action.
