To all residents of Upstreet, including Hospital Ground, Pollyberg, Lytton’s Fancy, Mafolie and Blackbeard’s:Given the concerns of the residents of Upstreet regarding early morning concerts in the Lionel Roberts Stadium, which have negatively impacted the immediate residential community, We from Upstreet Inc. (WEFUS) inform the public of the following upcoming event. WEFUS has requested the discontinuation of this practice during recent town meetings held by the organization and Governor John de Jongh, Jr.
We From Upstreet Addresses Xmas Concert Scheduled at Lionel Roberts Stadium
Recently the promoters of Paid 4 Entertainment LLC were granted an application to conduct a Xmas Soca Xtreme Concert in the Lionel Roberts Stadium from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Dec. 27; however, their application for an extension to 4 a.m. was denied by the Virgin Islands Police Department. An appeal was made to Government House and the promoters were encouraged to contact the neighbourhood organization We From Upstreet Inc. for consensus on this matter.
The promoters and made an appeal for the extended hours due to contractual and financial commitments entered into by Paid 4 Entertainment LLC. A subsequent meeting was held on Dec. 10, with all parties involved, which included representatives of the Office of the Governor, Housing Parks and Recreation, the VIPD and We From Upstreet.
Given the circumstances presented, it is our position that notwithstanding our prior commitment to cease all concert activities at Lionel Roberts Stadium at 2 a.m., we are consenting for special consideration of this Christmas concert to 4 a.m. Therefore, WEFUS is requesting the indulgence and patience of the residential community and all those who may be affected by this event.
For the New Year, WEFUS has requested that the administration properly inform the general community of the 2 a.m. curtailment of concert events at the Lionel Roberts Stadium. WEFUS has also recommended that the proposed plans for our new stadium consider the integrations of the cultural and sports uses of the stadium for the 21st Century. This is necessary if the stadium will serve as the general venue for activities of this magnitude.
On behalf of the board and members of the organization, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all a blessed holiday season and a prosperous and Happy New Year — Myron D. Jackson, president.
