Shooting Victim Marks Territory's 56th Homicide

A shooting Wednesday night left a man dead, the 56th homicide of the year in the territory, tying the record set in 2009. It was the 29th homicide on St. Thomas since Jan. 1.

Police on St. Thomas were alerted by 911dispatch operators of a shooting on First Avenue in Sugar Estate. Their initial investigation revealed that the victim, later identified as 33-year-old Andy Roumou, was in the parking lot of his apartment complex when he was shot in his upper body by an unknown person or persons.

Witnesses in the area told police they heard two shots around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. Roumou was transported to Roy L. Schneider Medical Center for treatment and died from his wounds at about 8 a.m. Thursday.

The case is being followed up by the Major Crimes Bureau. Police urge anyone with information about the crime to contact detectives at 715-5545, 715-5534, or to call the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
