A man who was shot Thursday in an incident at Sion Farm on St. Croix died of his injuries at the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital, the V.I. Police Department reported Friday.
The victim was identified by family members as 22-year-old Wayne A. Jerome of Estate Whim.
He is the 10th homicide victim on St. Croix since the beginning of the year, the 13th in the territory, according to the Source homicide list.*
According to the VIPD, Jerome was sitting in a black pickup truck in the field across the corner from the Lew Muckle Elementary School when he was approached by a slim male. Shortly after, Jerome exited his vehicle and was then shot multiple times by the slim male. The suspect left the area in Jerome’s vehicle after the shooting. The truck was later recovered at the nearby Rudy Krigger Ballpark in Sion Farm.
Police were notified of the shooting by a phone call to the 911 emergency call center at around 5:20 p.m. Thursday. Officers at the scene reported that a Black male, later identified as Jerome, had been shot multiple times. The victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he was initially listed in stable condition but later succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives are appealing to the Sion Farm community for information into this shooting, particularly those with residences around the location of the incident. Police urged anyone with information about the incident to contact police by calling 911, the Crime TipLine at 340-778-4950, or the anonymous tip services, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS). Tips reported to Crime Stoppers that result in the solution to a crime can qualify the caller for an anonymous cash reward.
