Paws in the Pandemic: V.I. Animal Shelters Resilient, but Need Increased Community Support

As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, the Humane Society of St. Thomas and the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center continue working hard to mitigate the impact it is having on them and the animals in their care.

Humane Society Full and in Need of Support

The Humane Society of St. Thomas, in a news release last week, said the organization is not able to take in any more animals right now. “We are asking pet owners to please not surrender their pets at this time,” said Annette Zackman, Humane Society president.

19 St. Croix Dogs and Cats Spayed for Free as Part of World Spay Day

There are 19 fewer cats and dogs that will multiply on St. Croix, thanks to the Sunshine Foundation’s World Spay Day free clinic on Tuesday.

Humane Society’s Valentine Fundraiser Garners $150,000

The “Valentine’s Brunch and Silent Auction” fundraising event hosted Sunday by the Humane Society of St. Thomas, raised almost $150,000 towards supplies needed to take care of the many animals that depend on the shelter’s services.
