On Thursday, Nov. 19, the Board of Land Use Appeals voted 4-0, with two abstentions, to deny an appeal brought by the Virgin Islands Conservation Society against the Summer's End Group's Plans for a St. John Marina.
Save Coral Bay, a nonprofit environmental organization has filed a lawsuit against the governor of the Virgin Islands and the Summer’s End Group LLC to block the construction of a marina in Coral Bay.
The future of Coral Bay came into the spotlight once again when the Senate Committee of the Whole met Tuesday to consider a modified permit and a lease for submerged land for a controversial 144-slip marina on St. John.
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. worked with DPNR and developers of Summer’s End to smooth out any permitting issues and prepare a modified, consolidated permit that could be passed by the Legislature at a moment’s notice.
The permit requested by Summer’s End Group, LLC to develop a marina and retail complex in Coral Bay, St. John has been deemed invalid by the Virgin Islands Legislature.
