The Anguilla Landfill is on fire again, according to a release from the Waste Management Authority. The Waste Management Authority advises the public and all haulers that landfill operations have been temporarily suspended.

Volunteers Needed for STX Mangrove Cleanup on Saturday

The hurricanes of 2017 put a lot of debris into the territory’s shoreline mangroves where it remains to this day and volunteers are needed to help clear it out. On Saturday the third annual “Great Mangrove Cleanup” will be held at Salt River Bay.

Eight Bills Moved Forward, Two Held in Committee

Senators of the Rules and Judiciary Committee moved eight bills forward on Thursday, holding two additional bills in the committee for further discussion. Three of the approved bills focused on government responsibility and appropriation of funding.
No tires have been removed from the Anguilla Landfill on St. Croix, despite an agreement that that would happen.

EPA Approves USVI Self-Permitting of Landfills

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Tuesday it has approved the U.S. Virgin Islands’ municipal solid waste landfill permit program, allowing the territory to manage its landfills and expand or create new ones.

Community Kicks Off Rock City Clean Streets

Rock City Clean Streets kicked off this week’s community cleanup on Tuesday and hopes to attract more volunteers as the weekend edges closer, finishing with a seven-day tidying effort of frequented communal spaces next Monday.

Waste Management Problems Pile Up With No Clean Answer

The V. I. Waste Management Authority is $24 million in debt and facing a budget cut of 17 percent. Sen. Novelle Francis at Tuesday's Senate Committee on Finance budget hearing called the situation a travesty. 'We need to pay these people,' he said.
