There's great St. Thomian excitement brewing in Key West right now as plans are being completed for the fourth annual St. Thomas Bacchanal to be held there this year.
This year's event is being organized by Jane Walker Hoffman, daughter of the late Judge Hoffman and sister of local attorney, Paul Hoffman. Planned for the weekend of April 30 through May, all current and ex-pat St. Thomians are encouraged to attend.
The first Bacchanal was initiated by ex-pat Ann Lawrence Wray in Ft.
Lauderdale, and it's been growing faster than catch n' keep ever since.
Key West, which is sort of like a stateside St. Thomas, give or take,
should prove a welcoming site for the festivities which start off with
a Sunset Cocktail Gathering Friday followed by dinner and dancing at
Kelley's Caribbean Bar and Brewery on Saturday.
The event, which planners expect to draw 400 people this year, according to Jane, has lured such personalities as Ray and Judy Stull. Ray will always be remembered for the infamous waterfront saloon Trader Dan's, certainly one of St. Thomas's more colorful watering holes until its demise in the early seventies.
Expected to attend this year are Wendy and Bob Noble. Bob owned radio station WVWI, and is a member in good standing of the Water Island Garden Club. Also looking forward to the event this year are Jo and Len Stein of WSTA radio, Jack Chapman and Jo Tatum of All Island Air, Karen Spears, Bert Kilbride, Arlene and Harry Jensen and Olivia Stanford, to name a few.
